The case in the tram

A tram was riding along the street. There were a lot of people in the car. At the bus stop four more entered: a man in a military overcoat, an old woman with a bag, a man in a gray cap, and the last – a poorly dressed young man with books in his hands. Confusedly looking at the conductor, he searched for a long time in his pockets money for a ticket and smiled happily when he finally found 10 cents.

From the car, almost no one left. And now a citizen in a gray cap noticed that a man in a military overcoat is slowly crawling into his pocket to a young man with books. He seized the thief by the hand and cried:

“Keep the thief!”

Everyone was agitated, the tram stopped, people left the car on the street.

The crowd grew and rustled. The worst was an old woman with a bag. She waved her fists in front of the rogue’s nose and cried:

“And who wanted to steal money, take away the last pennies!”

The policeman approached.

He demanded from the thief documents.

“I do not have a passport,” he said embarrassedly. – I’m a writer Gaidar.

– We know such writers! cried the old woman.

After her, everyone shouted the same thing. Only one young man with books did not worry and stood quietly.

– Who are you? asked the policeman affectionately.

– I came to Moscow from afar, only yesterday I became a student of a medical institute. I spent all the money, but I have not received a scholarship yet, “said the youth.

Then the militiaman asked the student to look in his pockets whether the thief had taken out his documents.

The young man reached into his pocket and suddenly took out 50 rubles.

“It’s not my money.” I did not have any money, “he said.

Everyone was surprised. The first time saw a “thief” who puts money in the pockets of people.

The policeman asked everyone to disperse. Gaidar also went. But the evil old woman grabbed him on the sleeve, took out of her sack a large ruddy apple and handed it to Gaidar:

“Take it, good man,” she said. “Take it, it’s a big apple, and I can not put it in your pocket, you’ll notice it anyway.”
