Biography Nikitin Ivan Savich

On the outskirts of Voronezh, in a small house above the river, in the family of a poor merchant Ivan Savich Nikitin was born. My father dreamed that his son would become a scientific healer, but this dream did not come true. His father’s trade was ruined, and so as not to go bankrupt, he set up an inn where the drivers who stayed in the city with their waggons stopped for the night. Ivan helped his father, he had to trade in the market. And he gave free time to reading, began to write poetry: “When I found a free minute, I went to some remote corner of my house, where I got acquainted with the pride of mankind, where I composed a modest verse that I asked from my heart. I hid everything I wrote as a crime, from every stranger and with the dawn I burned the lines over which I cried during a sleepless night. In the course of the years, the love of poetry grew in my chest,
The poet spent all his years in Voronezh, a small provincial town, he knew the life of the urban

lower classes and realized that darkness was more terrible than poverty.
In 1859, with the help of friends, Ivan Savich managed to open a bookshop in Voronezh. For those who could not buy books, a library was arranged. In addition, it was possible to talk about literature, listen to the poet’s poetry.
The main theme of the verses of IS Nikitin is native nature. Composers wrote over sixty songs and romances to his words. Many of Nikitin’s poems entered the song folk repertoire.
Nikitin’s poems are surprisingly sincere and realistic. He wrote about feudal Russia, about how terrible it is to live in peace, “where the thought is killed and the mouth is clamped.” He knew the hardships and troubles of his heroes – a serf, a city craftsman, a domestic worker, a spinner, a seamstress… The poet did not just sympathize with a man, he suffered from his suffering and wrote as if on behalf of this suffering. Therefore, his poems excite and penetrate the soul.
