Biography of Ivan Aivazovsky


Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky is an artist, an activist.

Ivan was born on July 29, 1817 in Feodosia. The first years of Aivazovsky’s biography passed in poverty as a result of his father’s ruin. But all the same, he managed to enter the gymnasium of Simferopol. His passion for painting led him to the walls of the Academy of Arts of St. Petersburg, in which he studied with recognized masters. After graduating from the Academy traveled a lot around Europe. In 1847, in his biography, Ivan Aivazovsky became a professor at the Petersburg Academy of Art.

The most successful Aivazovsky was in the seascapes. And from 1844 he was even an artist of the naval staff. Also in the biography of Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was opened its own art school. Among the most famous of his paintings – “The Ninth Wave”, “Black Sea”. However, Aivazovsky wrote canvases not only on the sea theme. Among his other series of paintings: Caucasian, Ukrainian landscapes, Armenian history, Crimean War. For his biography Ivan Aivazovsky created about six thousand works.

In addition, in the biography of the artist Aivazovsky always had time for socially useful events. So Ivan Konstantinovich actively helped the development of his native city – Theodosia. Built there a museum of antiquity, founded an art gallery, contributed to the construction of a railway track in Dzhankoy.
