“Bezhin Meadow” composition

The hero of the story, Petr Petrovich, hunting, got lost in the forest and went out to a place that the local inhabitants called Bezhinym meadow. Here he noticed a fire near which people were sitting. Approaching closer, he saw the boys who were watching the herd of horses. They accepted Pyotr Petrovich as a good traveler, and not as a horse thief, whom the watchmen of horses constantly fear. Apparently, there was something in his appearance that was attractive and trusting. They fraternally invited him to the fire and spend the night. There were five boys. Fedya was one of the ringleaders, the son of a well-to-do peasant. Paul – a little unsightly, but it felt an iron freedom. Kostya had an unusual face, similar to the face of a squirrel, with a thoughtful look. Vanya was the quietest, taciturn boy of about seven. And Ilyusha had an inconspicuous face, but he knew a lot of jokes, legends. The boys began to tell a friend of a friend the different beliefs associated with evil spirits.

Of course, all these stories are fiction, but the guys believe everything, not doubting anything. For them it is entertainment, children’s fun.

Turgenev soul infiltrated the inner world of peasant children and understood their problems, joys and worries. He managed to create in his narrative several boyish characters and endowed these characters with just children because they are more free in their thoughts than adults. They are also waiting for an adult difficult peasant life with worries and adversities, when once joking and writing fairy tales.

In this story IS Turgenev also created magnificent landscapes, lovingly describing the radiant sun, air clouds, the hot scents of summer. The writer describes in detail the summer night, all the movements in nature on the eve of the morning. He seems to connect children and nature together, showing the boys in their naturalness and simplicity. In these descriptions, we see the writer’s skill, love of his native land and people.
