Composition on the “Price of Victory”

The further from us the war, the more we realize the greatness of the people’s achievement. And the more – the price of victory. I remember the first report on the outcome of the war: seven million dead. Then another figure will go into circulation for a long time: twenty million dead. Twenty-seven million have been recently named. And how many crippled, broken lives! How many failed sorrow, how many unborn children, how many tears of the mother, father, widow, orphan were shed! Particularly should be said with life in the war. Life, which, of course, includes fighting, but it’s not just fighting.

Vyacheslav Kondratiev tells about the way of war in the story “Sashka”, which “could be called the deepest essential tragic prozaism of the war.” 1943 year. Fights near Rzhev. With bread is bad. Nothing to smoke. There is no ammunition. Mud. Through the whole story is the main motive: almost completely broken up company. Almost none of the fellow

soldiers of the Far East remained. Of the one hundred and fifty people in the company – only sixteen. “All the fields are in ours,” Sashka says. Around the rusty, swollen earth with red blood. But the inhumanity of the war could not dehumanize the hero. Here he crawls to remove the felt boots from the dead German. “For yourself, you would not have bothered, disappeared with these felt boots, but Rozhkov is sorry.” His pymas were soaked through with water, and you can not dry it over the summer. “

I want to highlight the most important episode of the story – a story with a German prisoner, whom Sashka, executing an order, can not “waste.” After all, it was written in the leaflet: “Life and return after war are guaranteed.” And Sashka promises the German life: “Those who burned the village, the arsonists of these would shoot Sashka ruthlessly.” And as in the unarmed? Sasha had seen a lot of deaths during this time. But the price of human life has not diminished from this in his mind. Lieutenant Volodko will say when he hears a story

about a German prisoner: “Well, Sashok, you are a man!” And Sashka will answer simply: “We are people, not fascists”.

In a brutal, bloody war, a person remains a man, and people – people. This is what the novel is written about: a terrible war and a preserved humanity. Decades have not weakened public interest in this historic event. The time of democracy and glasnost, illuminated by the light of truth, many pages of our past, poses new and new questions for historians and writers.

Without taking the lie, the slightest inaccuracy in covering the historical science of the past war, its participant, writer V. Astafyev severely assesses what was done: “I have nothing to do with what is written about the war, as a soldier, I was absolutely in another war. Half-truth tormented us. “

These and similar, perhaps harsh words are invited to appeal, along with traditional works, to Astaf’ev’s novels The Shepherd and the Shepherd, V. Grossman’s Life and Fate, novels and stories by Viktor Nekrasov “In the Trenches of Stalingrad”, K. Vorobyov “Scream “,” Killed under Moscow “,” It’s us, Lord! “, V. Kondratyev” Sashka “and others.

“It’s us, Lord!” – a product of such artistic significance that, according to V. Astafiev, “even in the unfinished form, it can and should stand on the same shelf with the Russian classics.”

We still do not know much about the war, the true price of victory. The work of K. Vorobyov draws such events of the war, which are not fully known to the adult reader and are almost unfamiliar to the student. Heroes of the story of Constantine Vorobyov “This is us, Lord!” and the story “Sashka” Kondratieff is very close in terms of worldview, age, nature. The events of both novels take place in the same places, returning us, in Kondratyev’s words, “into the most insignificant war,” into the most horrible and inhuman pages of it. However, in Constantine Vorobyev, the face of war is a captive, in comparison with Kondratiev’s story. About this is written not so much: “The fate of man” by M. Sholokhov, “The Alpine Ballad” by V. Bykov, “Life and Fate” by V. Grossman. And in all works the attitude to the prisoners is not the same.

In the title of the story “This is us, Lord!” “We are ready to die, to be accepted by you, Lord.” We passed all the circles of hell, but we carried our cross to the end, we did not lose the human in ourselves. ” In the title lies the thought of immeasurable suffering, of the fact that in this terrible appearance of half-living creatures it is not easy to recognize oneself. K. Vorobiev writes about the system of exterminating people, about Nazi atrocities with pain and hatred. What gives strength to fight exhausted, sick, hungry people?
