What is spirituality and religiosity?

In the lessons of ethics, the inner world of a person, which is otherwise called the spiritual world, has already been spoken about many times. This world is also spoken of in the Bible: “Man does not live by bread alone, but by the word of God.” The spiritual world of each person is individual. Its content depends only on us. The concept of “Spirituality” is connected with the spiritual world.

Spirituality is defined as a person’s ability to create a spiritual world. This ability manifests itself primarily in self-improvement, because the spiritual world is inside each of us: these are our thoughts, dreams, feelings, finally our aspiration to achieve the ideal, to become better, more perfect. A collection of Hebrew lectures so characterizes spirituality: “The older people who are living in the spiritual life become, the more their mental outlook expands, their consciousness becomes clear, and people who live only in mundane life, will fade

with age.” Spirituality is the magnetic property that makes a person interesting to others. It means not only knowledge, experience, sociability or generosity. For example, the Ukrainian historian, writer Nikolai Kostomarov, who lived in Petersburg, enchanted with his love for Ukraine. Those, who visited Kostomarov in his Petersburg house, always struck this spirit of his native land. “In this cozy corner, from where the books almost ousted the owner, everything resembled the native land: the image of the Okhtyr Mother of God, portraits of the ancient figures of Ukraine, and the native language,” recalled the contemporary Kostomarov. “There seemed to be a corner of a distant Ukraine.”

For many, the spiritual life is connected with the service of God. This manifestation of spirituality is called Religion. In this sense, the spiritual life is contrasted with the secular from the words “light,” “peace.”

From the course of history you know that religious beliefs were inherent in the oldest communities of people. For a long time, mankind professed various religious

teachings, deifying first the world of things and the surrounding nature. Later our ancestors began to believe in the gods. The quality that determines to what extent a person is imbued with religious ideas, norms, how much religion affects a person’s life, is called religiosity. When they say that a person is religious, this means that at the heart of his spiritual life is a certain religion, faith in God. Such a person is also called devout.

The manifestation of the pious person’s worldview is Religious feelings – love of God, reverence, humility and other experiences. In their depth they not only do not concede to other feelings, but also surpass them. That is why religious feelings should not be treated lightly, disdainfully, because by this we humiliate, offend a person.

Spirituality is a manifestation of the inner world of man; the ability to create a spiritual world, self-improvement.

Religious – 1. Believer in God and diligently fulfilling all religious rites. 2. Relating to religion; based on religion.
