Rest by the sea

Last summer, I was lucky to have a rest at the Caspian Sea. Our friends went to Dagestan in their car and offered me to go with them. The path was not long. We crossed the Ukrainian-Russian border and moved to Dagestan, where we had to rest by the sea. Passed the Rostov region, Stavropol. The July heat even drove the gophers out of the burrows, and they stood in the steppe like pillars, as if watching the movement of our car.

That’s Dagestan. In the front the Caspian turned blue. I spent almost the whole day at the sea, only came home for lunch. I was told that the sea year after year conquers all the new pieces of the beach. And indeed, it came very close to the embankment. To delay the offensive of the sea on the city, along the coast, reinforced concrete piles were poured, striking about which the waves lose their power.

… In the morning the sea raged, the sky was tightened by low dense clouds. The hope that the sun will look out quickly faded away. I was alone on the beach. True, a certain dog-tramp wandered about at a distance. It seemed that he did not know where to put himself. It approached the edge of the water, but, frightened by the noise of the incoming wave, bounced off, then sniffed the stones covered with algae thrown ashore. I took a sandwich from my bag and broke off a piece of bread with cheese and sausage and left it to the dog. She glanced at me cautiously at first, and then slowly began to eat.

Soon I realized that I had to treat someone else. Just above my head flew two seagulls and sat down nearby on a stone block at one of the piles. I liked the company of a dog and gulls. I decided to make gulls and participants in the meal. Breaking off a piece of bread, she threw it to them, but did not notice how another gull appeared, which on the fly grabbed a treat intended not for her, and flew away.
