Population and political map of Oceania
The settlement of the islands of Oceania began many millennia ago. There are various hypotheses of the origin of the peoples of Oceania. Some scientists believe that the settling of the islands began the representatives of the equatorial race from the Eurasian mainland. Others, for example, the Norwegian scientist Thor Heyerdahl, argue that Oceania was inhabited by natives of South America, because in appearance Polynesians and Indians are similar. The indigenous inhabitants of Polynesia, Maori, Hawaiians, Samoans, Tahitians and others occupy an intermediate position between the three main human races. Their characteristic features are dark skin and wavy hair. On the islands of Oceania, there are also settlers from Asia, Europe and America. There was a mixed population.
The peoples of Oceania are wonderful seafarers. On their small ships they traveled thousands of kilometers from their homes.
The population of Oceania is engaged in agriculture. Cultivated tropical crops: coconut palm, bananas, pineapples, yams, sugar cane, etc. In New Zealand sheep breeding is well developed. The local population traditionally engaged in fishing. In recent decades, tourism is developing rapidly.
The political map of Oceania is very variegated. There are sovereign states and dependent territories.
