Biography of Gina Tunney


Gene Tunney – American boxer, was born in the city of New York. Gin Tunney’s fascination with boxing manifested itself in his youth. Then Jean began boxing in the surrounding clubs. During the First World War, Tunney served in the US Navy. Until they took Paris, the American light heavyweight champion served in the exposition troops.

In 1922, he defeated Lewinsky, winning the title of light heavyweight. But in the same year the title was lost to Harry Greba – the only boxer who defeated Tunney in professional sports. In 1923, the Tunney regained the title. A well-built, stately, athletic-minded athlete usually fought very honestly. Tunney was known for his strong punches during the attack.

In 1926, he defeated Jack Dempsey in a 10-round battle in Philadelphia, thus becoming the world champion in the heavyweight division. In Chicago a year later, Tunney reproduced his achievement in a fight with Dempsey. Repeated battle was the subject of numerous disputes.
