Who is called a citizen
In the history of Ancient Greece there is a heroic page connected with the struggle of the Athenians against Persian aggression. In the Battle of Marathon, the Greeks defeated the great Persian army. According to the legend, immediately after the end of the battle in Athens, the messenger went with joyful news. He ran, in what was – in combat equipment, with weapons, without stopping for a moment. Having overcome the distance to Athens, which is 42 kilometers, he burst into the city with a cry: “Rejoice, we won!” – and died on the spot from a heart rupture.
Sometimes they think that it is possible to prove yourself as a real citizen only under exceptional circumstances. So, one of the most tragic pages of the modern history of Ukraine was the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986. That night one of the reactor blocks exploded. A fire broke out at the station. Rapid radioactive pollution of the surrounding nature began. Participants
“Even the measuring instruments went off scale, we had to change the clothes three times a day, the water that was used for drinking and washed, was imported, it was delivered to the liquidators in barrels… Twice a day they had to wash themselves to somehow to wash off that radioactive dust that they had accumulated… They were moving along a 30-kilometer zone by transport, so as to be as small as possible in the open air, but sometimes there were not enough vehicles, then they covered the distance on foot. “
Of firefighters who took part in the elimination of the accident, 9 people received burns of varying degrees, and one died in the hospital. For the heroism and courage shown during the extinguishment of the fire, V. Pravok, V. Kibenok and L. Telyatnikov were awarded the title of “Hero of the Soviet Union”. This page of our history is forever associated with people whose hearts were filled with love for other people, for their home, their country, their homeland, with real Citizens.
In the life of every person there
We are citizens of our modern country. It depends on us how our native state will become – strong and developed, with a high standard of living of its citizens or weak, depending on the will of other states, with an unprotected and low-income population. We – citizens – choose those people who will lead the state, we are citizens, – by observing the laws, using our rights and carrying out our civil duties, we strengthen the state, support it, help it move forward. That’s what it means to be a citizen of your state.
