We are the children of the world

In our class, we created a corner dedicated to the American city of Cincinnati. Our city and Cincinnati are twin-cities. Here we are with the guys and decided to learn more about this American city. They searched what to write about him, in newspapers, magazines, reference books. Someone brought color photographs of the life of the State of Ohio, which includes the port city of Cincinnati. We learned that there is a chemical, pharmaceutical, furniture, perfume and food industry. There is a university there, founded in 1788.

We decided to correspond with our peers from Cincinnati. The biology teacher, upon learning about this, offered to collect a small parcel with the seeds of the most common tree in our land – oak. Someone laughed: “Do they have little oaks, what will our acorns surprise them with?” The teacher explained that acorns from oak would be obtained from these acorns. Becoming older trees, they will symbolize the friendship of Ukrainian and American

children. We liked the offer of the teacher. We decided to find the ancient trees. And in one of the days off we all went to the forest with the whole class. First, relax, and secondly, collect acorns for Cincinnati.

In the oak, where we arrived, the forester showed us the oaks, which are more than three centuries old, and said that these trees are protected by the state. The forester explained that for seeds it is necessary to take large ripe fruits without damage. We collected a few kilograms of acorns, and then in the class more carefully sorted the harvest. But at what address to send? We were bailed out in the Society of Friendship of Twin Cities. We attached a letter to the parcel. They told us about their school, about their class, about giant oaks, which are the pride of our forests. They also told us that there is a boy among us who bears the name Robert. This was the name of Senator Kennedy, who in 1968 was mortally wounded in the assassination attempt in Los Angeles. And the American guys, as we learned from books, are called by the Russian name Yuri, in honor of the first cosmonaut of the planet Yuri Gagarin.

On the day of sending the cherished parcel to Cincinnati, we planted some of the remaining acorns from the school. So let’s see who will sooner take them – either in our country or in a distant American city.
