Painting Kuindzhi “Ladoga Lake”

The summer of 1872, Arkhip Kuindzhi spent on the island of Valaam. Deeply impressed by the beautiful nature of the island and the lake, a year later he painted a picture of “Lake Ladoga”. Landscape illustrates well the changes in the life of the artist: on the one hand, the realism of the image shows the desire of the author to accurately convey the colors of nature, and on the other, the influence of Romanticism brings to us the feelings that the artist possessed at that time.

Fine, subtle shades of light entice the viewer, make him feel the special mood of the picture. Majestic stretches a huge lake with crystal clear water, through which a stony bottom can be seen.

This picture Kuindzhi began a series of paintings on Russian northern nature. The artist professionally creates a sense of boundless space at the expense of a single gamut that unites the sky and the water surface. A bare line shows the horizon line.

Arkhip Kuindzhi in his painting “Ladoga Lake” depicted the beginning of a thunderstorm. A deep cold gray-blue color emphasizes the atmosphere of the approaching bad weather.
