Once

The path further led to the forest. Finally she led me to the bank of a steep valley. I already wanted to turn back, but then I saw a small animal on the bottom of the hollow. He furtively looked around and was fumbling for something in the low grass. At first I thought it was a dog. But it hurt the animal to be different from the dog. Either a thick long hair, or a humpbacked back. She was steeply uplifted from her head and just as abruptly fell behind.

Trying not to frighten off the animal, I went down into the hollow. Busy, the stranger, it seemed, did not pay any attention to me and was quietly engaged in his business.

And then I whistled loudly. Surprised by this, the animal ridiculously raised its face upward, sniffed the air from different directions, shook his head and skipped headlong up the hollow.

I ran after him. The valley in the middle was heavily washed away by rains and ledges rose. The fugitive turned out to be a bad runner. I caught up with him at the next waterfall, the walls of which rose steeply upward. And the animal was already exhausted and did not think of salvation. He was lying on the bottom of the rink, with his sharp muzzle in the clay wall, and breathed deeply.

I began to wonder who my acquaintance was. Of course, it was a raccoon. In recent years, they have divorced a lot, and to meet in our forests this animal is not so rare.

In the fine autumn days, the animal goes on a hunt, in order to increase fat for a long winter.

This is the meeting that the autumn forest gave me.
