Biography of Glenn Warner


Glenn Scobie Warner is an American football coach, best known as “The Pop” Warner. He was born in Springville, New York.

He studied at Cornell University. And in 1894 Warner received a bachelor’s degree in law. In 1892-94, he excelled himself as a defender in the football student team. Being the trainer of the University of Georgia in 1895-1896, Glenn Scobi created an unbeatable team.

Later, he coached the Cornell team, the school team of Carsley Indian. In the latter he developed several football stars. The most famous of them is Jim Thorpe. In those days, Warner gained national fame.

At the University of Pittsburgh, he again created the strongest teams. Three of them put unbeaten records. During the years 1924-1932, Warner coached three teams of the “Pink Bowl” match at Stanford. At Temple University, he taught football from 1933 to 1938, and also advised the San Jose College team. For his sporting career, Glenn Scobie Warner spent countless games.
