Biography of Taras Shevchenko


Taras Grigorievich Shevchenko is an outstanding poet, an artist.

Born March 9, 1814 in the Kiev province in the village of Morintsy.

First in Shevchenko’s biography the mother was lost, then in 1825 her father died. So began his hard, harsh life. Soon he learned to read and write, began to draw a little. In 1829 he began to serve from the landowner Engelhardt. In Vilna in the biography of Shevchenko Taras was trained by a teacher at Rustem University.

In 1840 the most fruitful period of the poet’s life began. The collection “Kobzar” by Shevchenko was published, several of his most famous works were written. Shevchenko’s poems were criticized negatively, but were close to the people.

As an artist Shevchenko also did not cease to create. He created a number of paintings in the spirit of critical realism. After rapprochement with the Kiev Cyril and Methodius Society, he was arrested. Then in the biography of Taras Shevchenko, a reference was made to the Orsk fortress of the Orenburg region. He was forbidden to write, draw, which was very difficult for a creative person. After the expedition to the Aral Sea, Shevchenko was transferred to Novopetrovskoe, where he was until 1857. Having freed himself, he returned to Petersburg. In recent years, Shevchenko’s biography has produced few poems, paintings. February 26, 1861 the great poet died. Shevchenko monuments are installed not only on the territory of Ukraine, but also in Russia, the USA, Paraguay, France.
