World Ocean

The world’s ocean is the largest part of the hydrosphere, it covers 71% of the earth’s surface. Conditionally it is divided into four oceans: Pacific, Atlantic. Indian. Arctic. In some countries of the world, the water area around Antarctica is singled out as the fifth – the Southern Ocean.

Oceans, like the continents, are the largest natural complexes of the geographical envelope. They differ in their position, size, depth and peculiarities of interaction of the components of nature.

Until the early XX century. the oceans were not sufficiently investigated. The main attention was paid to the study of land – continents and islands. The oceans were viewed as a combination of deep depressions filled with salt water. Recently, the attitude to the study of the oceans has changed significantly. It is from the oceans that the cycle of substances and energy depends, which determines the general laws governing the development of the Earth’s nature.

Know the nature of the World Ocean is very important, because the use of its resources is extremely promising to meet the needs of mankind. Every year, the extraction of minerals from the shelf zone and from the ocean floor increases, and the use of various seafood is increasing. At the same time, projects are being developed to increase the use of the energy of the oceans.
