The art of making mistakes

I do not like watching television programs. But there were programs that I always watched: dancing on ice. Then I was tired of them and stopped looking – ceased to be systematic, only occasionally. Most of all I like when those who are considered weak or who have not yet joined the “recognized” clips, are doing well. The success of beginners or the luck of the unfortunate brings much more satisfaction than the luck of the lucky.

But it’s not that. Most of all I admire how the “skater” (as in the old days called athletes on the ice) corrects his mistakes during the dance. He fell and rises, quickly entering again into the dance, and leads this dance as if there had been no fall. This is art, great art.

But there are more mistakes in the life of mistakes than on an icy field. And we must be able to get out of the mistakes: correct them immediately and… beautifully. Yes, it is beautiful.

When a person persists in his mistake or worries too much, thinks that life has ended, “everything has died” – it’s annoying for him and for others. The people around are uncomfortable not because of the error itself, but because of the inability to correct it.

Admit your mistake to yourself (it is not necessary to do it publicly: then it’s either embarrassing or drawing) is not always easy, you need experience. It takes experience that, after a complete error, as soon as possible and as easily as possible to get involved in the work, continue it. And those around you do not have to force a person to admit mistakes, you have to encourage her to correct it; reacting the way the audience reacts at competitions, sometimes even rewarding the fallen and easily corrected his mistake with joyful applause at the first opportunity.
