Interesting peasant types attracted the attention of the author in a small village Kolotovka. Here is the pub “Pritynny”, which is famous throughout the district and collects most of the people, but not because of the prices. Glory to his drinking establishment is obliged to the knot-maker Nikolai Ivanovich, who started the order to treat vodka or wine of rural singers. Many men gather in a tavern not so much for the sake of drinking, as for the sake of singing themselves or listening to others. The author acquainted here with the main singers of the district – Obladuyem, Morgach, Yakov-Turk, Dikim-Barin. They are completely different people both in appearance and in nature. All of them were united by a singing, which became a part of their life. The author is a little amused by how seriously they treat each song, how long they start singing. However, he sees that this is important for the peasants. And even the boys in their families inform each other about the upcoming flogging, humming. After acquaintance with the singers, the author still has a feeling that he did not see much surprising in Rus.
