Shirley Muldoney’s Biography


Shirley Muldoney – avtogonschitsa, was born June 19, 1940 in Schenectady, New York. Most known as a professional racer, is also known under the pseudonym “Cha-Cha”.

After the birth, she was named Shirley Roekeln. Biography Shirley Muldoney is famous for the fact that this athlete became the first woman to participate in the races of the National Association “Hot Rodov.” In racing circles, she was known as Shirley’s “Cha Cha” Muldoney. After racing on ridiculous cars in the early 1970s, she returned to the leaders of the competition of fuel racing cars.

Shirley Muldoney was the first woman in the world to win the Top Fuel race. She became the first female driver to win three world rider championships in 1977, 1980 and 1982. After a terrible accident in 1984, Muldoney retired from racing for almost 2 years. But then again she returned to the victories, and in 1998 she set a record speed for the International Hot Rod Association. She finally left the race at the age of 63 after participating in the final of the competition in 2003.

Biography Shirley Muldoney, her life was depicted in the 1983 film “Heart as a wheel.” In the film, the racer played the role of Bonnie Bedelia. She published her memoirs in 2005 in a work called “Shirley Muldowney’s Tales From the Track”.

Additional information: Shirley Maldouni stopped using the pseudonym “Cha Cha” after 1973. One day she said “There is no room for bimboism in races…”. Maldouni took the last name from her first husband, Jack Muldoney. In 1988 she married her head Ran Tobler.
