Geographic location and dimensions of the Pacific Ocean
The Pacific Ocean occupies 1/3 of the entire earth’s surface and 1/2 of the World Ocean area. Almost in the middle it is divided by the equator, the meridian passes through its waters 1804 The ocean ishes the shores of five continents.
The western part of the ocean is bounded by Eurasia and Australia, the eastern part by the North and South America. In the north, through the Bering Strait, the ocean connects with the Arctic Ocean, and in the south it is limited to Antarctica. In the southern part, the conditional boundaries between the three oceans – the Pacific and Indian, the Pacific and the Atlantic – are conducted along the meridians from the extreme southern mainland or island point to the Antarctic coasts.
Most of the islands, different in origin, are concentrated in the western part of the ocean. The largest in comparison with other oceans, the area of the equatorial-tropical zone makes it a gigantic store of heat and the warmest ocean. The average surface water temperature is +19.1 ° C. The huge area of the ocean also contributes to the formation of powerful air currents above it, which largely affect the Earth’s climate.
