Tolstaya Tatiana Nikitichna (born 1951), a prose writer.
Born and raised in Leningrad in a large family of physics professor, the son of the famous Russian writer AN Tolstoy.
She graduated from the Department of Classical Philology of Leningrad University.
After marrying a Muscovite, she moved to Moscow, worked as a proofreader. The first story of T. Tolstoy “On the golden porch sat…” was published in the journal “Aurora” in 1983. Since that time, 19 stories have been published, the novel “The Story.” Thirteen of them compiled a collection of short stories “On the golden porch sat…” (Fakir, “Krug”, “Lost”, “Sweetheart”, “Okkervil River”, etc.) In 1988 – “Somnambula in the Fog”.
Tolstoy is referred to as the “new wave” in literature, is called one of the bright names of “artistic prose”, rooted in Bulgakov’s “play prose”, Olesha, which brought with it a parody, clownery, celebration, eccentricity of the author’s self.
About himself says: “I’m interested in people” with a breakdown, “that is, we are usually deaf to whom we perceive as ridiculous, unable to hear their speeches, unable to discern their pain. , little understanding, often lacking something important, and leaving, are perplexed as children: the holiday is over, and where are the gifts? In recent years, Tatiana Tolstaya lives and works in Princeton (USA), teaches Russian literature at universities.
