Strugatsky Arkady Natanovich (1925 – 1991), Boris Natanovich (born 1933), prose writers (co-authors)
Arkady Strugatsky graduated from the Military Institute of Foreign Languages in Moscow (1949), worked as an editor.
Boris Strugatsky graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Leningrad University, worked at the Pulkovo Observatory.
The brothers started their joint literary activity in 1957.
In 1959 – 60 their first sci-fi stories “The Country of the Crimson Clouds”, “The Way to Amalthea”, a collection of short stories “Six Matches”, which aroused the readers’ great interest, were published.
Then followed: a cycle of novels “Return” (1962); novels – “It’s hard to be a god” (1964), “Predatory Things of the Century” (1965), “Snail on the Slope” (1966 – 68), “The Second Invasion of the Martians” (1967). Each new work appearing in the press was a great event for numerous admirers of fiction in our country.
The story “Picnic on the Roadside” (the basis of
A. Starker’s famous film “Stalker”), “The Hotel of the Deceased Mountaineer” (screened by G. Kromanov at “Tallinnfilm” in 1979) enjoyed an incredible popularity. In the
1980s, the ” The Beetle in the Anthill “(1983),” Waves extinguish the wind “(1985 – 86),” The City of the Doomed “(1988 – 89).
Arkady Strugatsky died October 12, 1991. Boris Strugatsky lives and works in St. Petersburg.
