Biography of Shakira

Shakira is a famous Colombian singer, dancer, producer, choreographer and model. Her musical talent appeared at an early age. Already at the age of 7 she showed an outstanding talent in singing and dancing.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Colombia on February 2, 1977.

Father encouraged his daughter to create lyrics for songs. First she performed in the Lebanese restaurant of her grandmother, where she taught and perfected the dance moves. Although she was born in Colombia, her father was of Lebanese descent.

Her voice was very strong for the child, and some even criticized him for being “too powerful.” But Shakira caught the eye of music producers, and began to record her own albums.

In 1995 she released the debut album “Pies Descalzos”, which gained great popularity in Latin America and Spain. The 1998 album “Donde Estan Los Ladrones?” was very important for her career and brought her world popularity. In the early 2000s, she entered the English-language music market – she learned English and wrote and wrote her own songs, released albums in Spanish and English. Her albums beat numerous records, including downloads, and Shakira became the best-selling Colombian performer of all time.

Shakira also participates in humanitarian projects, especially in her native Colombia, which is struggling to recover from long periods of civil war. When asked why she spends a lot of time on humanitarian projects, she replied that after growing up in a developing country, she realizes the huge gap between the lives of rich and poor people in her country.

She is one of the top 5 selling artists of the 2000s. Shakira performed at the inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama in 2009.
