Martin Freeman was born on September 8, 1971 in the city of Aldershot, England. He grew up near London and among the five children in the family was the youngest. His parents divorced when he was small, and at the age of 10 he lost his father. Freeman attended the Catholic school before enrolling in the Central School of Stage Speech and Dramatic Art. At the very beginning of his career, he took part in several productions at the National Theater of London.
