Youth
Kate Middleton was born on January 9, 1982 in Reading, Berkshire, England. At birth, she was named Catherine Elizabeth Middleton. Her parents were a pilot, Michael and stewardess Carol Middleton. Kate has Philip’s younger sister and younger brother James.
Kate is from the working class – her ancestors were miners and builders. Her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Goldsmith, was the first member of the family who tried to improve the social and economic status of the family. In September 2012, Middleton got into the headlines when in the French magazine “Closer” published her photos, on which she was without a swimsuit. Soon the photos were also printed in some editions of Ireland and Italy. As soon as the photos were printed in “Closer”, the royal family immediately initiated a lawsuit to obtain the rights to the photos in the hope of stopping their further distribution. On September 18, 2012, the royal family won in court the right to full possession of photographs – the judge ruled that the French edition should transfer the photos to the family’s property within 24 hours.
