Biography of Ernst Haeckel

Ernst Haeckel is a well-known biologist, philosopher, doctor and artist.

Childhood and Youth

Ernst Heinrich Philippe August Haeckel was born on February 16, 1834 in the province of Potsdam, which at that time was part of Prussia. He studied at the Cathedral High School in Merseburg. After leaving school in 1852 Haeckel continued his education in medicine in Berlin and Würzburg. Later, he enrolled at the University of Jena, where he defended his doctoral dissertation on zoology under the direction of Karl Gegenbauer. As a student, Haeckel showed interest in embryology. In 1857, Haeckel received a doctorate in medicine and received a license to practice his own practice. But the profession of the doctor ceased to please Haeckel immediately after he met his first patients.

From 1859 to 1866 Haeckel worked with such animal species as annelids, sponges and rays. During the journey through the Mediterranean region, he opened more than 150 new types

of luchevikov. Between 1859 and 1887, he discovered thousands of new species. In 1862, Ernest Haeckel became a teacher of comparative anatomy at the University of Jena, and he held this position for 47 years until 1909. In 1866, Haeckel, together with Hermann Folle, visited the Canary Islands, where he met Thomas Huxley, Charles Darwin and Charles Lyell.

Haeckel proposed an improved version of the biogenetic law of Etienne Serres, in which he argued that there is a close relationship between the biological development of the organism, or ontogeny, and their evolution and phylogeny. To illustrate the biogenetic law, Haeckel used embryo patterns and proposed the concept of heterochronism – a change in fetal development time during evolution.

Darwin’s idea of the origin of species influenced the work written in Germany by Haeckel entitled “The Natural History of Creation.”

In 1866, Haeckel published the book “The general morphology of organisms,” which was a generalization of the idea of Darwin, the German philosophy of nature and the evolutionary theory of

Lamarck, which Haeckel accordingly called “Darwinismus”. He used morphology for a new interpretation of the theory of evolution due to the fact that there was not enough organic remains to develop embryology that could be used as evidence of kinship relations. He even went further and argued that the origin of mankind can be traced back to South Asia, where the first people come from. He believed that primates from South Asia have a lot of similarities with people. He also declined the idea of Darwin that the primates of Africa had a resemblance to man.

Haeckel believed that part of the ancient continent of Gondwana in the Indian Ocean was the source of human development, which later moved to other parts of the world. In his book The History of Creation, Haeckel describes the migration routes that the first people used to get out of Gondwana.

The number of drawings Haeckel has more than 100 copies, among which images of animals, especially aquatic animals.

Haeckel also engaged in philosophy and wrote such works: “The Mystery” and “The Riddle of the Universe and the Freedom of Teaching and Teaching.”

Personal life and death

In 1867, Haeckel married Agnes Huschke. The couple had two daughters – Emma and Elizabeth, as well as a son named Walter. After the death of his wife in 1915, Haeckel became morally unstable. In 1918, he sold his big house to the Carl Zeiss Foundation. Ernst Haeckel died on August 9, 1919 in Germany.

Talking about childhood in interviews and essays, the businessman all the important in his life somehow connects with his mother. A physics teacher, she worked on several jobs to raise two sons on her feet. Stubborn work and faith in justice – these principles have become powerful imperatives laid down by Zhomart for life.

Teenager Yertaev showed a tendency to exact sciences, but after 17 years of his love for algebra and geometry passed, but there was a fascination with literature and history. In 1989, at the entrance examinations at AASI, the applicant scored the maximum number of points, which made it possible to study in one of the Moscow universities, but Zhomart decided to stay in Kazakhstan.

When the future entrepreneur studied in the second year, the Soviet economy collapsed. The student had to work as a salesman in a commercial store to support his family, and in parallel to finish his studies. In 1994 he became a graduate of the Faculty of Management and Business of the Kazakh State Academy of Architecture and Construction, majoring in economics.

Before the entrepreneur’s professional activity was inextricably linked with the financial sphere, he was engaged in business with a former classmate, “buying and selling a little bit of everything,” and then their business was taken away by bandits.

After the incident, Zhomart went to work in one of the banks, but did not pass the interview because he did not know the English language. Later, he learned that he was not accepted as a cashier at the exchange office. A few months later he became head of the department in another structure – Alfa Bank, and at 23 he was already chairman of the board.

In an interview with the Kazakh edition of Forbes, the businessman admitted that he likes to create banks and bring them to the market leaders. One of the most striking pages of the biography of Zhomart Ertayev is the period of his work in Alliance Bank. For five years, when Yertaev was in charge of the chairman of the board, and the activities of his professional team, the bank from the regional financial institution turned into one of the backbone banks of Kazakhstan, becoming the fifth bank of the country by the size of assets in 2007.

From 2010 to the present, the entrepreneur is a consultant to the Board of Directors of JSC Bank RBK. Since 2011, Yertayev is also head of the Eurasian Financial Consulting Center.
In 2014 a new page was opened in the biography of Zhomart Ertayev: he became the general director of “Alma-TV” LLP. To date, the company is the leader of the cable television market in Kazakhstan, as well as a significant player in the data transmission market. In the next few years it is planned to transform Alma-TV into a universal telecommunications operator, whose geography will not be limited to the territory of Kazakhstan.
