Sights of Ukraine
Ukraine is one of the oldest and most beautiful countries in Eastern Europe. In ancient times, it was known as Kievan Rus, and that is why its current capital is called Kiev.
The country has a fascinating history and rich culture. In addition to historical monuments, churches, museums, palaces, Ukraine is full of natural wonders such as mountains, beaches, rivers and simply beautiful landscapes. Perhaps the most favored by the local population is the Carpathian Mountains, especially in winter. It is considered the Green Pearl of Ukraine. This place is a mixture of green areas, forests, meadows and people living in harmony with nature.
The largest and most sated city is Kiev, of course. Millions of tourists visit it every year to see the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the Dnieper, the Sophia Cathedral, the Mariinsky Palace, Khreshchatyk and other interesting places. The oldest church in the country is the Sophia Cathedral, built in 1037. For many centuries it was the center of the cultural and political life of Kievan Rus.
All visitors to Kiev are strongly encouraged to walk through an old street called Andreevsky Descent, which today houses art galleries, cafes and exhibitions. People say that Lviv is the most beautiful city in Ukraine. This is a very poetic town of ancient and relatively new architecture. Once upon a time this city was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and then of Poland.
One of the most interesting places in Lviv is the 16th century market with an area – the Market Square. Another ancient city of historical significance is Kamenets-Podolsky. It strikingly blends natural landscapes with architecture. Despite the fact that the city was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, its old part retained its unique charm.
