Biography of Simon Petliura


Simon Vasilyevich Petlyura – political, military leader of Ukraine, who heads the Directory of the Ukrainian People’s Republic.

Simon Petliura was born in Poltava on May 5, 1879. Educated in the seminary of Poltava. 1900 in Petliura’s biography is designated by joining the revolutionary Ukrainian party. Since then, he began active party activities. A little later he was one of the founders, and later the leaders of the Social-Democratic Labor Party. When, in 1917, the UPR was proclaimed, he did not work for a long time in the government as a military secretary.

In 1918, after the coup of Skoropadsky, the biography of Simon Petliura became known as the brightest representative of the opposition to the regime of dictatorship. After the restoration of the UPR, the management was transferred to Vynnychenko. And in February 1919, almost all the fullness of power passed to Petlyura.

During the period of the Petlyura biography, several reforms were made, mostly by the military. He formed an army that opposed the capture of Ukraine by the Red Army. Spent the war with Poland, lost, then emigrated from the UPR in 1920. Then from Poland Petlura moved to Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, France. In Paris on May 25, 1926 Petliura was killed.
