Criminal charges
Accusations of criminal violations pursued Berlusconi from the first days as prime minister. He was accused of embezzlement, tax fraud and bribery. Because of his position Berlusconi was able to avoid some accusations – as prime minister he approved a law that guaranteed immunity to the prime minister during his term. Berlusconi also fought with the presentation of other charges until they had expired the limitation period.
Berlusconi was also found guilty of abuse of office. While on duty, he tried to rescue El-Marug from prison, informing the police that she was connected with Hosni Mubarak. In addition to the charges, Berlusconi was also banned from holding posts in state institutions.
Berlusconi did not plead guilty to any accusation. He and his supporters believe that he is being pursued by the Left Party, and therefore he continues to fight against all accusations against himself.
Berlusconi does not have to serve a sentence in prison, or leave the civil service for the time of appeals on his cases. Even if his sentence is found to be correct, Berlusconi’s age allows him to be kept under house arrest, and it is unlikely that he will ever be in prison.

Berlusconi’s success in broadcasting, as well as a long political career, allowed him to change the Italian media and politics. In 2013, Forbes magazine assessed the state of his and his family at $ 6.2 billion. Taking into account his influence, he remains a strong leader. He is also a strong political partner of this coalition in the government of Italy. Despite numerous scandals, Berlusconi gives the impression of a man who will still have success in Italy.
