Biography of Neil Armstrong


Neil Armstrong – an astronaut, July 20, 1969 was the first astronaut to set foot on the surface of the moon.

He was born on August 5, 1930 in Huapakonetta, Ohio. Biography of Armstrong is best known as the story of the first man to step on the moon.

Neil Armstrong was a veteran of aviation: he led 78 military missions in Korea. Then he joined NASA, becoming a civilian test pilot.

Armstrong was a pilot during the Gemini-8 mission, which took place on March 16, 1966. Then he became commander of the mission of Apollo 11 in 1969. Together with partners Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, Armstrong flew to the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Lunar surface on the Eagle module. Armstrong first stepped to the surface, uttering the famous phrase: “A small step for man, however, a giant leap for all of humanity.”

In 1971 Neil Armstrong left NASA. For the next decade, he became a teacher at the University of Cincinnati. Biography Armstrong’s “First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong” was written by the inventor from NASA historian James Hansen, published in 2005.

August 25, 2012 due to complications after heart surgery Neil Armstrong died.
