Biography of Floyd Patterson


Floyd Patterson – American boxer, was born in the city of Waco, North Carolina. The first years of Floyd Petterson’s life were held in Brooklyn, New York. Then he was sent to the school Wiltwick in Esopus. It was an institution for emotionally troubled, with delinquent behavior of adolescents. There Floyd first started boxing.

As an amateur, Patterson won 40 fights out of 44. Patterson’s highest point of career was getting the title of champion at the 1952 Olympics in the middleweight category. Starting out as a professional boxer, he lost only one fight before knocking out Archie Moore in 1956. Then Floyd was 21, he became the youngest boxer to win the middleweight title.

Patterson successfully defended the title 4 times before losing Ingemaru Johansson from Sweden in 1959. A year later, Patterson knocked out Johansson. So Floyd was the first middleweight boxer to return his title. In September 1962, another loss occurred. Then the title of champion in the first round by knockout was won by Sonny Liston. Despite the unsuccessful outcome of the fight, Patterson continued to box. He left the sport in 1972. Profitfully investing the money he earned, in the 1990s Patterson became a coach.
