O. Henry is an American writer.

William was born on September 11, 1862 in Greensboro, North Carolina. After graduation in his biography O. Henry began to study pharmacy. Worked in the specialty. After that he became a cashier and an accountant in one of the banks of Austin. The next stage in life is flight and a three-year stay in prison because of accusations of embezzlement. Being imprisoned from 1898 to 1901, Porter wrote several literary works. Then he took the pseudonym O. Henry.

He died on June 5, 1910. A few years after the death of the writer, the O. Henry Prize was founded.
