Together with the whole of Moscow, the Northern Administrative District was upgraded to the 850th anniversary of the capital. Old buildings were restored and refurbished, new houses were built, infrastructure was improved, and the ecological situation improved. All these efforts were urgently needed. But behind them in the district did not forget about the spiritual life, both in the secular and religious sense of the word.

The restored old icon of St. George, the patron saint of Moscow, along with a part of his relics, was put on worship for believers in the church in the name of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Khovrin. The solemn service dedicated to the attainment of the shrine by the shrine – the all-night vigil with the reading of the akathist to St. George began on November 15 at 17 o’clock and continued on November 16 at 9 o’clock with the Divine Liturgy.

the concept of light decoration of the Northern District of the capital for the 850th anniversary of Moscow’s foundation provided for the illumination of some monuments of sculptural composition on the Victory Bridge.

By August 1997, the replacement of obsolete pavilions at public transport stops had been completed in the district. The new designs combine the functions of indoor stops and shopping pavilions. In addition, it was planned to place information stands and billboards at the stops.

Under the prefecture of the Northern Administrative District, a permanent headquarters was established to coordinate measures for the improvement of the okrug and the protection of green spaces. In the near future plans to improve the ecological situation in the Okrug, the purchase of planting stock, the inventory of orphan lands and the development of projects for their landscaping, the adoption of a program to protect green spaces from pests and diseases were envisaged.

The main landscaping objects in the SAO were a large park, a square near the cinema “Neva”, Matros Zheleznyak boulevard.

In total, the territory of the district was planned to plant 4 thousand trees, 14 thousand shrubs. 6 thousand dead bodies were removed from streets and boulevards. On 5 thousand square meters of flower beds appeared.

From the fund of financial resources of the region, money was allocated to purchase a universal harvesting machine KO-718. This machine is designed to keep clean sidewalks and roads that have asphalt-concrete coating. Installed on her equipment allows you to remove dirt, snow, scatter protivogololednye mixture.
