Queen Margot
1570, the era of civil wars in France, the bloody clashes of Catholics and Huguenots. In the previous ten years, the leaders of the warring parties perished. In Saint Germain there is a world for which the sister of King Charles IX Princess Margaret is married to Henry of Navarre. This marriage is equally amazing and outrages the fighters in both countries. At court something is going on! More recently, Admiral Coligny was sentenced in absentia to death, a generous reward was given for his head by the king, and now the king calls him the father of the Louvre and instructs him to command the combined forces in the upcoming campaign in Flanders.
King Henry of Navarre is explained with his young wife. Their marriage is a political union, they are indifferent to each other. Henry is not in love not with reciprocity in Mme de Sov, wife of the Secretary of State; Margarita has her own secrets. But this marriage of two honest and pure souls of

people – so why should they not be allies? Margarita promises Heinrich to support him to the end.
These days in the palace the intrigue is promptly untwisted, the inspirer of which is Catherine of Siena, the dowager queen, who hates the Huguenots. The patience of the opponents was barely enough for a week: an attempt is being made on Admiral Coligny. King Charles IX entrusts this matter to Morvel, the officer of the detachment of fire-fighters. Rumors of new bloody conflicts are spreading all over the kingdom. In Paris, two young nobles arrive: Count Lerac de La Mole, the Huguenot, with letters to King Henry and Admiral Coligny, and Count Annibal de Coconnas, a Catholic, with a secret message to the Duke de Guise, the fierce enemy of Coligny. Having settled in the hotel “Guiding Star”, the young people quickly approach each other and inform each other of the card game that at night they have both very important audience in the Louvre. It was night – from August 24 to August 25 – St. Bartholomew,
Embroiled in the slaughterhouse, La Mole and Coconnas turn their weapons against each
other. alas, La Mole is lonely, and Coconas is at the head of a detachment of Catholic soldiers. The bleeding La Mole escapes from the chase in the chambers of Queen Margarita of Navarre. However, Coconas was seriously wounded – and he finds shelter in the house of Marguerite’s closest friend, the Duchess of Henriette Neverska. The slogans of the warring mills, two beauties who fell in love with the soldiers rescued by them, contrast their motto: “Eros-Cupido-Amor”.
To Margot after a terrible night is her brother, the Duke of Alençon. What has happened is, he says, only a prologue to great upheavals. King Karl is sick, he is seized by fits. The defeat of the Huguenots made the de facto ruler of de Giza. Marriage to the Huguenot is reprehensible now, and not to the time, it is still possible to replay. Margot refuses to betray her husband. She clearly saw the woes threatening her and Henry: Charles IX did not prevent the slaughter, conceived by the queen mother and de Gis; Guise and her brother Francois, the Duke of Alençon, are ready to take as many benefits as possible from the spilled blood; hardly the King of Navarre will not – and everything tends to that – his possessions will be seized, and her, the widow, will be sent to the monastery. Madame de Sauves notifies Margo of the highest order to appoint Henry of Navarre a meeting in her chambers: she suspects that this is a provocation and he wants to be killed. Margarita hides her husband in his bedroom, where he is surprised and indignant at the discovery of the queen mother, who has arranged this maliciousness. What a discomfiture: the Huguenot King sleeps not with his mistress, but with his lawful wife! He is perfect – and she has nothing to blame him. After her departure, Margarita presents Henry hiding in one of the neighboring rooms of La Mole. The young man sends the letter to the king with a delay, warning him of the mortal danger. Ah, if the king was not busy at the time when La Mole first came to the Louvre, the history of France could have developed differently! .. Beloved Queen Margo sleeps this night in her bed at the feet of her spouse-king – as his companion by misfortune, a loyal subject and a new friend, but not a rival in love. who has made up this mischief. Dowager Queen Catherine is furious. All – and the events of last night, and the prediction of the sorcerer René – against her will, against her passionate desire to get rid of Henry of Navarre. The next adventure of hers is fiasco: her poisoned lipstick, lethal for beauty and for her frequent guest, Henry, sent to her by Ms. de Sov, for some reason does not work (Catherine does not know that Maitre René himself at the last minute replaced the sinister bottle with another, completely innocuous). The Queen Mother can not reconcile with the son-in-law even his conversion to Catholicism.
Accepts Catholicism simultaneously with his king and La Mole: he vowed to accept the faith of the late mother in the event of a miraculous deliverance from death. He and Kokonnas healed from the wounds all the same master René – and yesterday’s enemies are made inseparable friends, whose union is fastened together by the gentle feelings of their beautiful ladies, Margarita and Henrietta. La Mole is still unable to believe that his most beautiful queen answered his love. The friends ask for a final answer to the clairvoyant René. No doubt: Margot loves La Mole as hot as he does her. The proof is a waxed figurative figure in a crown and a mantle with a heart pierced by a sharp needle. Like the icon, La Mole hides this doll – the image of Margarita of Navarre, adored by him…
In Paris, de Mui, the head of the Huguenots, striving for political revenge. Overhearing his conversation with Henry, the Duke of Alençon tries to convince de Mui that he is a more worthy challenger to the throne when he is emptied after the death of his brother Charles. That de Mui it was easier to penetrate the Louvre, Duke Francois advises him to sew the same cherry blossom as Margaret’s favorite – La Mole. Heinrich is alarmed: someone has again risen in his path, and he knows who. Behind Francois is clearly seen the figure of his mother. He is not mistaken: right now, in the office of King Charles, the Queen Mother, stricken with his news of the appearance in the Louvre de Mui, compels his son to issue a decree on the arrest of Henry, entrusting him to capture him – dead or alive – Morvel.
Carl the next day, you have to regret your decree: hunting Heinrich saves him from the boar fangs. Thus, the King of Navarre not only saved the life of man, but also prevented the change of sovereigns in the three kingdoms, but most importantly – he saved himself and Margo. Henry converses with the Duke of Alencon in confidence: De Mui suggested that he conspire against Charles – he rejected these proposals. But de Mui will not calm down, he will turn his gaze to the other side, for example, to Prince Conde… or even to somebody else. François turns pale: it seems Henry has unraveled the evil intentions of his mother. He fervently persuades the King of Navarre to become the head of the Huguenot movement to guide him. Huguenots trust Henry, King Charles loves him, Francois himself has already prepared an act about his renunciation of succession in his favor: “Fate is in your hands!” The interlocutors shake hands – at this moment, Ekaterina Sienskaya enters the room. Hypocritically touched by the handshake of the brothers-kings, she triumphs triumphantly over Henry. At night, Morvel comes into his bedroom with guards and stumbles upon de Mui. Two guards were killed, Morvel was seriously wounded. The incident is another palace scandal. In fact, Henry owes his salvation not only to the leader of the Huguenots, but also to the King of Catholics: Carl led him out of the palace late at night. He decided to entrust Henry with his secret – to introduce the charming Marie Touche and their illegitimate son. Something funny happened on the way with them. They met on one of the dark streets the Duke of Guise and the Duke of Anjou (brother of Charles and Francois, without five minutes of the King of Poland) leading them to a house where, they said, is a meeting of two very illustrious ladies with two gentlemen who are entering the Louvre (speech, it goes without saying, is about Margarita and Henriette, having supper at the company of La Mole and Coconnas). The attempt to break into the house is met with a determined rebuff: pots, pelvic and snacks flew from the windows of the king and his retinue…
Returning to the palace, Henry finds out about the night prowess de Mui. However, the Duke of Alanson instilled in him the suspicion that it could be La Mole: a brave man who almost killed Morvel was dressed in a cherry cloak. The King of Navarre hurries to his wife: “A terrible suspicion hung over our friend!” “It’s impossible: he was at another place in the night.” Margot falls to her mother’s feet: “La Mole is innocent, he spent the night with me, if he is arrested, he will have to confess to it.” “Calm down, my daughter,” answers Queen Catherine, “I stand guard over your honor!”
The queen mother becomes clear: La Mole does not separate her daughter from Henry, on the contrary, he is their ally. The Duke of Alanson, at the suggestion of his mother, invites La Mole to her – and lies in wait for him with several faithful people in the dusk of the corridor. The plan is solved by the King of Navarre, he warns La Mol about the danger and advises him to hide. Conspiracy with de Mouy, La Mole prepares to join the Huguenots, following from a safe distance behind his lover, every evening going out on a date with him “in Spanish” on the balcony of the palace.
Maitre René spells the queen mother, predicting a speedy death of her son Charles – death violent. While making some other predictions, Rene, among other things, tells Queen Catherine about the fortune-telling for Margarita at the request of La Mole. We must hasten to break all the knots: in Paris – the Polish ambassadors who arrived for the coronation of the Duke of Anjou, she is obliged to provide the future for her sons! At her request, the master Rene impregnates with poison the ancient guidance on falconry, which she instructs to convey to the King of Navarre. But this book is in the hands of Charles IX. The incurably sick king makes falconry. De Mui, La Mole and Coconnas wait for King Henry in the forest to flee to the Huguenot camp. This plan was frustrated by the Duke of Alençon, consecrated into a conspiracy and at a decisive moment refused to compose Henry’s company.
La Mole and Coconnas in the fortress. There, too, King Charles concludes and Henry: this is the only way to save his life, in prison he is at least guarded. Begin interrogations of captive conspirators. One of the proofs of La Mole’s evil intentions is a wax doll in royal regalia. The letter “M” on the place of the heart, pierced by a needle, – means, of course, “death” (morte)! La Mole can not reject this accusation: Queen Margarita, his divine lover, must remain out of suspicion. Two heads are chopped off to two friends. Having received them from the hands of the executioner, Margarita and Henrietta irrigate them with tears…
The hour of death is also close to Charles IX. He finally realizes that his ailment is the result of poisoning that his mother poisoned him and that the younger brother had transmitted the poison to him. He calls to himself the amiable Henrio, king of Navarre, and announces the decision to declare him regent and heir to the throne before the return of the Duke of Anjou from Poland. If the Duke of Anjou and will challenge Henry’s power, the latter will be able to present the Pope’s charter of his rights (the letter is already on the way). The Duke of Alanson must be imprisoned in the fortress, the Queen Mother – exiled to the monastery. His will the dying Karl announces to his mother and brother François. On the way to Paris, a detachment of Huguenots led by de Mui. Everything says that Henry is the King of France! However, the Huguenots are ahead of the train of the Duke of Anjou: he was informed by his mother that Brother Carl was dying, and hurriedly left Poland,
The Queen Mother rejoices: at least one of the gloomy prophecies of Maitre René has not come true! She makes a last attempt to eliminate Henry, dictating to Morvel a letter addressed to the state councilor de Sova: his wife is at the Hotel “Guiding Star” in the company of a dandy among his friends. What was allowed to Henry under King Charles – is impermissible under King Henry III, namesake and rival of the King of Navarre in the struggle for the throne. The calculation is simple: the jealous spouse will hurry to the place of the meeting – and the lover, whom he has endured for so many years, will be killed! On the guard at the door of the hotel are de Mui and two of his officers. Henry, warned of danger, jumps from the window and breaks down. De Mui persecutes Morvel, who came with the guards to note for the offended honor of M. de Sova – and kills him. Returning to the hotel, Henry sees the dying Charlotte:
Among those who arrived in time from the palace to the scene of the crime is the master Rene. Henry, shocked by the incident, ready to leave Paris again, exclaims: “And you said that I would become a king?! I am an unfortunate exile!” “No, Sire, it’s not me saying it.” She says it! ” – and the master Renee points to a star in the gleam of black clouds, announcing the future glorious king of France and the beautiful queen Margarita, who does not love him, but who is boundlessly faithful to him…
