Painting by Kramskoy “For Reading: Portrait of S. Kramskoy, Wife”

Kramskoy portrayed his wife in this portrait, drawing it in 1869. As I know, he was very fond of his family and was attached to it, Kramskoy believed that the family is a fortress in which he could rest from his troubles with which he faced in life. His many works were created thanks to his wife, she was for the artist and inspiration and a muse. Among all the portraits on which my wife is depicted, I liked “Reading” the most, in my opinion, he is the best of all.

The portrait depicts a young, beautiful woman. Lowering her head, she reads the book, her gaze is directed at the pages of some work. Sophia sits in the garden, her pose is free, the body is not tense. It can be seen that reading gives a woman pleasure. She wears a white, beautiful dress, on her knees lies a handkerchief, there is an umbrella near the foot. But these little things, which depicted the artist, in my opinion. not the most important in this portrait. The artist accentuates the viewer’s attention on the expression on his wife’s face. In my opinion, it opened the depth of my emotional experiences.

In my opinion, looking at the picture, we present Sophia, restrained and refined. Undoubtedly, she is an aristocrat. Kramskoy represents it in front of us calm and balanced. Her face and posture, can tell us, only that she is tense and at the same time spiritually calm. In my opinion, the artist painted his wife with special love, and for me all the details depicted in the portrait are important. They make up the whole picture, describing Sophia as a woman, he sort of unravels the secrets of her soul for us. This painting, one of the first portraits of Kramskoy, after this work he became famous as a portrait painter with his own style. I really liked the portrait, it’s so romantic, in my opinion, when a family for a person becomes a fortress and not a refuge.
