My native language

I think it is not without reason that the language is called the soul of the people. Like every soul, one must be able to keep it pure and beautiful. And he, like the soul, is only one, one for every nation. Who is to blame for the fact that most of the population of Ukraine speaks Russian? Who is to blame for the fact that until now Ukrainian speech in the streets of our city is perceived by others as something out of the ordinary? And should we look for the guilty?

In 1994, I went “for the first time in the first class.” And, by the way, in a class where teaching was conducted in the Ukrainian language. I will not hide the fact that some of my parents’ acquaintances, upon learning about this, twisted a finger at his temple and called me “an unhappy child.” Meanwhile, I read the poems briskly and told the rules on mathematics in the purest Ukrainian language. And she did not suffer at all from this. I do not suffer even now, because I still study

in a class where I teach in Ukrainian. With my mother, father and friends, I speak Russian, with my grandparents – in Ukrainian. I just can not understand what kind of language is native to me… They are both equally dear to me. Both of them are excellent for both of them. Both of them I like. So what is closer to me? It is necessary to understand. So, by nationality I’m Ukrainian, so, according to the logic of things, my native language is Ukrainian. No, wait, no Russian, I can not live. Then, maybe, Russian is the same, native? But I also love Ukrainian and I think it is not worse than Russian. I can not give up neither one nor the other. And why? Refuse from the Russian only because Ukraine is now independent? Or to abandon the Ukrainian only because someone believes it… how would I say it… “not prestigious”, or what? Ukrainian is the official language of our country, and it’s good. But many people are used to talking in Russian, and this, in my opinion, is not bad at all. And why? Ukrainian language for centuries, humiliated, suppressed and even declared “non-existent.” But he passed all the tests. Again our people found it and now certainly will not lose it. “Spivucha Ukrainka mova” sounds from the speakers of tape recorders and TVs already almost on par with the Russian language. Actively now books are being sold in Ukrainian. And let someone be ashamed of him. It’s a person’s problem, not a language. Personally, I do not want to offend either language. For me they are both native.
