Biography of Robert Thayer Jones Jr


Robert Thayer Jones Jr. is an American golfer, was born in Atlanta, Georgia.

As a lawyer, Robert Thayer Jones Jr. had a keen interest in golf.

Jones won the National Open Championship in 1923, 1926, 1929-30, then the National Amateur Competitions in 1924-25, 1927-28, 1930, as well as the open British championship in 1926-27, 1930.

In all endeavors striving for perfection, Robert Thayer was quick-tempered in his youth. Then he began to admire his mastery of golf. In 1930, Jones awaited great success in the competition “Grand Slam”. That year the athlete won four kinds of championships: open National, National amateur, open championship of Great Britain on golf, and also amateur British.

After such an amazing victory Robert left the sport. Together with Alistair McKenzie, he organized a national golf club in the city of Augusta. In 1948, the athlete suffered a back injury, which eventually led to his death.
