Once the economy of one famous church, called Theophilus, was famous in the region for its prosperity, high position and kindness. But life treated him cruelly, he lost everything and fell into disgrace with the cardinal. And then one day Teofil, sitting at home, bitterly recalled with what jealousy he had prayed for his patron Cardinal, who is so unfair to him. Econom was a proud man and decided at all costs to take revenge on the offender. It was impossible to do it by his own forces, and hesitating, Theophil decided to go to the powerful wizard Saladin, who knew how to conjure the devil. Saladin met Theophil with open arms. Having learned about the misfortunes that befell the friend, the magician promised to help and ordered to come the next day. On the way home, the pious Theophilus was frightened, that he would suffer eternal torment in punishment for the deal with the enemy of the human race, but, remembering his troubles, he nevertheless decided on a date with the unclean. Saladin,
by the same scary charm, summoned the devil and persuaded him to help Theophilus. The next day the economist came to Saladin even ahead of time, and he sent him to the devil, severely punishing not to utter Christian prayers along the way. Presenting himself before the impure, Teofil complained about his fate, and the adversary replied that he was ready to give him both honor and wealth, if for that Teofil would give him his soul and become his servant. Theophilus agreed and wrote a receipt that the devil left behind, ordering the economist to be cruel to people from that time and forget all mercy. And the cardinal, ashamed of his injustice towards Teofil, decided to restore him in office and sent his servant Zadir to find the expelled economist. Cursing the Zadir with the last words, Theophil decided, however, to go to the cardinal.
And now Teofil sees the cardinal’s complete remorse, but talks angrily with his master, even though he accepts the position and the money agrees, Teofil goes out and sees his friends Peter and Foma. With them, he also manages abruptly and, cursing and insulting them, goes
his own way. But he is suffering from remorse. After much torment comes repentance in the deed. Grieving, Teofil took to the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin. Pav on his knees, he began to pray earnestly for the salvation of his soul, flowing with tears. Grieving over the unfortunate economist, Madonna appeared to his eyes and promised to take the damned receipt from the devil. Then the Most Pure One went to the enemy of the human race and took the paper from him under threat of reprisal. Re-introduced to Theophilus, Madonna ordered him to give this receipt to the cardinal, so that he read it to everyone in the church for edification, so that they may know how easy it is to perish. Theophil came to the cardinal and, telling how everything was, handed him a vile contract. Vladyka, rejoicing at the salvation of the servant, called the believers in the temple and read them a paper containing the boast of the unclean, sealed with the blood of Theophilus. Hearing of such a miracle, all those present in the temple stood up and with one voice exclaimed: “We praise you, God!” So the evil devil was tempted, tempting the souls of people with light riches and glory.
