“The Magic Hill” by Andersen in brief
Lizards discuss that they are preparing to meet noble guests in a magical hill. When the hill opened, an old forest fairy came out of it, which wore an amber heart on its forehead. She asked the kozodoy to blow up invitations: to a big ball of all, even people, if they talk in a dream or do something else “according to our part”, and only know the banquet, because they were expecting an old Norwegian troll with sons, for whom it was supposed to give 2 daughters of the forest king, and who were “not very well educated”. Arriving at the ball, the sons immediately showed their “good manners”: the ruffians laid their feet on the table, took off their boots and handed them to the ladies to hold them.
After the dances, the younger brothers began to look: the youngest daughter, putting a splinter in her mouth, became invisible, but the troll did not want such a wife either for herself or for her sons; the second was able to walk next to her, like her own shadow; the third prepared well; the fourth game on the harp forced her to do what she wanted. Then the sons got bored and left. The fifth learned to love all the Norwegian, the sixth refused to show, and the seventh was able to tell fairy tales on it, and the Dovrefjelsky troll married himself.
The sons in the meantime were extinguishing the wandering lights, prepared for the solemn procession, and refused to marry them, they were more inclined to have fun. After the cock crowed, the hill closed; lizards again crawled on the tree and discussed with the worm ball.
