The biography of Mikhail Baryshnikov


Mikhail Baryshnikov – Russian-American dancer, choreographer, was born in Riga, Latvia.

The training of Baryshnikov’s choreography took place in Riga, then he performed with the ballet Kirov Ballet from 1966 to 1974.

Being highly esteemed, extremely popular among the Soviet people, in 1974 he began to speak with Western groups. So from 1974 to 1978, Mikhail danced at the American Ballet Theater, and from 1978 to 1979 – in the New York City Ballet. He took part in the productions “Swan Lake”, “Giselle”, “From Trial to Business”, “Medea”. They were also the choreographer of The Nutcracker, Don Quixote.

In addition, in his biography, Mikhail Baryshnikov starred in several films. For example, in the tapes “Turning Point”, thanks to which the American society recognized the famous dancer and choreographer, “White Nights”. Also Baryshnikov appeared on television in the program “Baryshnikov on Broadway”, starred in the series “Sex and the City.”

Biography Baryshnikova known as the director of the American Ballet Theater from 1980 to 1989. He also participated in several modern dance projects, including those produced by his own dance organization – “White Oak Dance Project”. In 2005, he opened the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York, – a great universal association for artists of different directions. With his attractiveness, impermanence, Baryshnikov changed the attitude of the public to the ballet, interested in dance, art as such.
