Turning to his children and to all who will ever read his message, Prince Vladimir Monomakh (1053-1125) calls them to have, first of all, the fear of God in the heart and do good, bearing in mind that the days of man on earth are fleeting and terribly dying, not repent of their sins. Suffering because of the death of his son, who was killed in the battle with Oleg, the prince exhorts his brother and regrets that he did not immediately repent when the son of Monomakh was killed before him, as King David repented, saying: “My sin is always in front of me.” The prince advises Oleg to send his daughter-in-law, the widow of the murdered, for that is how their fathers and grandfathers acted when they wanted reconciliation. Since the dead can no longer be invoked, and the judgment comes from God, and not from the one who killed, then it is necessary to turn to God so that He can instruct and direct the footsteps of the sinful man.
