Summary “A friend is known in trouble”
Dimka, Peter and Seryozhka were friends of the three. The leader in this three was Petya. He studied already in the seventh grade, and Dimka and Seryozhka – in the fifth. “Malyavkam”, as Peter sometimes called friends, the oldest friend seemed the most intelligent and strong. Between Dima and Serezha there was always a private competition, who is closer and dearer to Petya.
One day a school bus that carried children to the surrounding villages did not come on time. The boys decided not to wait, but to walk three kilometers to their village. They “cut off” the road and went through old, overgrown with reeds, swamped fields and copses. All went confidently, but with caution: the edge of the road smoothly passed into the swamp.
Dima listened attentively to the friend’s story about the record. Petya at the physical training class twelve times pulled himself up on the crossbar! Dima looked with embarrassment at his thin hands. And Petya proudly
Peter and Dima were horrified. They began to rush about the friend, pulled his hands to him, but could not get to Seryozhka. It was scary, because the swamp, like a living monster, sucked Serega. The boy no longer screamed, but only looked enthused in the eyes of his comrades.
“Let’s go, we will not help him in anything,” Dima Petya said quietly. Vanya for the first time refused his idol. “No!” – he answered and stayed with Sergei. What to do? Dimka jerked off his boots, took off his jeans, twisted one leg on his wrist, and threw the second to the weakened Seryozhka. He nodded gratefully to his friend, clung to the rescue rope, but did not have enough strength. Dima had to lie down in the cold chill to make it easier to pull Sergei out of the swamp.
They did not remember when the deliverance came. Then Dimka and Seryozha, dirty and chilled, sat on the trail and cried, then laughed.
And what about Peter? He somehow wilted, stopped bragging, dismissing “peacock feathers”. Now Petya tries to avoid Dima and Seryozhka, sits in the school bus away from two “friends – do not waste, bog” – so after this case they began to call the boys. Probably, sometimes extreme situations are needed. They help to recognize a true friend.
