“Ruler Nanke” Li Guongzo in summary
Fen Chunyu became famous as a brave warrior. He was generous, hospitable, but obstinate. Yes, and did not shy away from wine. Therefore, he was demoted from the post of deputy commander of the Huainan region. And he does not care at all: he settled in his own house, which is near the old-old ash tree, and washed down the old one.
Once he was heavily drunk, two friends laid down to sleep on the veranda. It was then that Chunyu imagined that the messengers had come for him to call on the ruler of the country, Huainan.
They met him there with an unprecedented honor. The first adviser came to meet him and led him to the master. He offered Chunya his daughter to wife. Soon the wedding was played. Among the numerous servants were two old-time friends of Chunyu, and the overlord in conversation once mentioned his father, who had perished many years ago in the lands of the northern barbarians. It turned out that he was among the subjects of the ruler of the country of Huainan.
He woke up Chunyu on the veranda of his own house and realized that it was all just a dream. And he told his friends about what had happened. Then he led them to the old ash tree. Behind the hollow there was a wide passage, in which were seen the mountains of the earth – exactly the city fortifications and palaces, where innumerable ants were scurrying. Among them there are two large ones, who were served by ants-crumbs. He found a hill where Chunyu’s wife was buried. In short, everything coincided with sleep.
And at night the storm flew, and in the morning there were no ants in the hollow. It’s true, indeed, their capital was moved to another place.
He knew about his friends who helped him in Nanke. One died from illnesses in the neighboring village, the other was at death. Struck by all that had happened, Chunyu refused women and wine, was carried away by the wisdom of hermits. And he died exactly in the year in which he was appointed by his father.
