Andersen’s “Fog” in a brief summary
Returning home, the soldier met a sorceress. So sent him to a hollow where in 3 rooms of 3 chests guarded by terrible dogs, he could collect copper coins, silver and gold, having first planted dogs on the old woman’s checkered apron. For this she asked me to bring her a flint located there. After completing everything according to the instructions of the old woman, the soldier cut off the adviser’s head and took the flint himself. Walking through all the money, and with it, and losing all new friends, the soldier again began to live poorly. Once he lit a candle that was attached to the flint and before him a dog appeared from the first room. It turned out that with each blow of the flint appears on the dog from that very hollow. The soldier again began to live on a grand scale.
One night he wanted to see the princess. The dog brought a beauty; in the morning the girl told the king and the queen her dream, in which she seemed to rode on a dog and the soldier kissed her. The next night the maid of honor, on the orders of the queen, tracked the princess to the gate of the soldier’s house, and placed a cross on these very gates. But the dog saw a note and crossed it on all the neighboring gates. The next time the queen tied a bag of croup to her daughter’s back, which fell on the road. The kidnapper was found and put in jail.
On the day of execution, the apprentice shoemaker brought the flint for the soldier for four copper coins. The last desire of the offender was to smoke after the click of the flint appeared all three dogs, which began to fling all the honest public so high that, falling, people broke up. The soldiers asked the lucky man to be king and take the princess to wife. Dogs were also present at the wedding table “and made big eyes with surprise.”
