Summary “The Great Opposition” by Kassil

Part one. My Ustja

1938 Sima Krupitsynu, an uncanny, freckled girl, a mediocre student, the object of ridicule of her class, and especially Romki Kashtan, is invited to act in films. She is offered the role of partisan Usti Biryukova in the film about Napoleon. The role of Denis Davydov is performed by the director of the film, People’s Artist of the USSR Alexander Dmitriyevich Raschepe. Native Sims, especially the husband of her older sister, who is called Adjuster in the family, are delighted: to have a movie with such a famous director is a gold mine, especially since Sima’s father was almost blind after a front-line injury, and the Krupitsin family needs money. At classmates Sima begins to be popular.

Ustya Biryukova, a real historical person, was a serf-like actress in Count Korevanov. At one of the performances comes dashing hussar Denis Davydov and meets with Ustya. After some time, in flaming Moscow, Ustya meets Napoleon. By the will of the case Ustya

breaks out of Moscow, gets into the partisan detachment of Denis Davydov, fights the enemy, and then returns to his master again and plays in the theater. Her military merit the count does not appreciate, as well as the king – the merits of the common people.

For rehearsals, Shelter invites Sima home. There she meets his wife Irina Mikhailovna and a housekeeper Arisha Shubina. During the rehearsals, the famous director thoroughly studies each episode, explains its essence.

Having lost his son because of the movie, Cleft is tied to Sima, who reciprocates with him. He instills in the girl his love for astronomy, pulls her up in mathematics. Sima sees how, without regretting herself, forgetting about the sick heart, Raschpey refers to work.

Finally the film is finished. After All-Union success, Clefts expects to remove another picture and forgets about Sima, who was drawn into the world of cinema. Sima meets the director Prichalin, who can not forgive the Fence, that he took Simu to the movies instead of his niece. Prichalin offers the girl a role in her film. Having learned about this, the Breakdown

tries to dissuade her: Prichalin is a puncher, he shoots vulgar, mediocre films, and Sima needs to learn. But the girl does not understand him, is offended and tells about it to Prichalon. Prichlin promises to work and Adjuster.

Feeling guilty for having introduced the girl to the world of cinema, Raspospeee comes to Sima’s home and tries to talk with her parents. Parents agree with him, but Adjuster takes the side of Sima: a chance can not be missed, especially since for their modest family this is a solid income.

Sima begins to withdraw from Prichalin. He does not know how to explain and constantly screams at her. When the girl gives him an example of the methods of the Fracture, Prichalin is only angry. After seeing the snippets of the film, Split persuades Sim to leave the picture, which causes Prichalin’s indignation. There is a heart attack with the Fracture, nevertheless Prichalin wants to speak on the committee against him.

Hearing this, Sima wrote a letter to the Central Committee with the intention of defending the Fissure, but falls ill with bronchitis, falling in the rain. During her illness the commission comes. The film Prichalina is criticized, and he is suspended from work.

Sima is enrolled in a circle of young astronomers and leaves in summer in the Moscow pioneer camp outside Moscow. At the request of the children, the Cleft comes to talk with them at the pioneer campfire. The great director tells the pioneers about the civil war and his enthusiasm for astronomy. Saying goodbye, he confesses to Sima that he has big heart problems.

A month later, the radio reported the death of People’s Artist of the USSR Alexander Dmitrievich Raschepeya. His widow gives Sima a letter in which he writes that Sima’s letter to the Central Committee came to him, and he hid it, so as not to bother large people. He asks to transmit this letter after his death, and he punishes Sima to live boldly and to remember him in the days of her great confrontations.

The rest of the holidays Sima conducts in Turkmenistan, from her brother. On the day of the great confrontation of Mars, she meets her brother’s brother Amed.

Part two. Light of Moscow

1941 year. All this time, Sima corresponded with Amed, they exchange impressions from the books they read and the movies they watched. Correspondence between Sima and Amed causes jealousy of her classmate Romka Kashtan. June 22, 1941 Amed is going to come to Moscow.

June 21, Sima as a pioneer leader of the detachment from the astronomical circle is going on a one-day hike. The guys on boats sail to the islet, which is located not far from the former manor of Count Korevanov. A year ago they left in a secret place notes with plans for the next year. Now the guys want to find them, but the notes have disappeared. Suspicion falls on Vaska Zhmyrev, a local hooligan who always chuckles at the boys and Sima. Gathering home, they see that the boat is gone. Now they stayed on the island without food. One of the boys, Igor Malinin, brings fish, which he caught in a reserved place. But then an old fisherman appears, from whose networks Igor took the fish. Despite the fact that the guys condemn Igor and ask for forgiveness, the old man takes offense and leaves, not paying attention to the request to inform someone about their whereabouts.

The day passes, the guys stay on the island for another night. It seems strange to them that in Moscow all the lights went out. Finally, a boat comes for them, which was sent by the parents who were disturbed. From the arrived guys learn the terrible news: the war began.

At home, Sima finds a letter from Amed, who had to leave because of the war. Sima’s neighbor, Captain Malinin, Igor’s father, leaving for the front, asks her to look after her son, as the boy remains completely alone.

In the first days of the war, Sima and her children are on duty on the roof, dropping lighters. Romka Chestnut is in the destroyer battalion and in his free time visits Sim. During one of the raids, the wife of the Fracture perishes. For Sima, who carefully preserved his memory, the only thread that connects with him is torn.

The enemy is coming closer to Moscow, and Sima with the pioneers is evacuated, her parents are still in the city. The train gets under bombardment, stands for a long time at stations, hammered by trains from the front, problems with products begin. Once it turns out that this is Igor for the sake of joking hijacked the boat from the islet. In the morning, the boy, ashamed by the boys, disappears, leaving a note. He is ashamed, and he goes to the front to make amends.

The teacher accompanying the children gives telegrams at all stations, and Sima feels guilty before Igor’s father. She is ready to return home to find a boy, but at one of the stations she accidentally meets Amed, who goes to the front, to defend Moscow. Gathering her things, Sima sits down in the train of Amed. Near Moscow they part: Amed goes to the army, and Sima, having ridden at the station, sits on a passenger train. Through a secret hiding place at the checkpoint Sima falls into the besieged city.

Instead of evacuated parents, she finds Major Protorov who has lodged in their apartment. They decide to live together and help each other. From the commandant, Sima learns that Igor has returned and settled in the attic, since the Malinins’ apartment is sealed. But when he was brought to the commandant’s office, he again fled.

On November 7, on the day of the Parade on Red Square, a note from the former servant of Raschepe Arisha Shubina, a resident of the village of Korevanovo, located near Moscow, in which Count Korevanov’s house-museum is located, comes to the commandant’s office. She reports that Igor is with her, and he is seriously ill. With the help of Protorov, Sima receives a pass for passage to the front-line zone, but near the village the sentry stops it: the entrance is closed. With the help of her old acquaintance, unpleasant to her Zhmyrev, Sima finds herself in the village and finds Igor, weakened after the illness. Zhmyrev took his warm clothes from him. The girl decides to take him to Moscow early in the morning, but at night the fascists come into the house. They evict Sima, Igor and Arisha into an extension. On the sheets torn from the notebook Igor and Sima write leaflets in support of the Red Army, and Igor pushes them.

With products it is bad, Igor weakens. In one of the December evenings, Igor and Sima notice that the fascists are leaving, but before they leave, they are going to set fire to the museum. Trying to prevent them from being beaten by Igor, they are beaten, but then the bombing begins. Using general confusion, Sima and Igor escape into the forest. With difficulty, pulling on himself the weakened Igor, Sim goes out of the woods into a clearing. There she meets soldiers from the platoon Amed. They tell her the horrible news of his death. The soldiers help the children to return to Moscow. Roma Kashtan, who has already gone to the front, writes letters to Sima.

Three years pass, the war ends. Sima studies at the Astronomical Faculty. April 30, 1945, the day of her birth, Krupitsynyh friends are going to. Among them is her classmate, an old friend of Roma Chestnut, whom she dreams of remaining together.
