Alexander Abramovich Kabakov (born Oct. 22, 1943, Novosibirsk) is a Russian writer and publicist.

Alexander Kabakov was born in an evacuation in Novosibirsk in the family of Abram Yakovlevich and Frida Isaakovna Kabakov. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Dnepropetrovsk University. After graduation, he worked as an engineer in the Yangelya rocket design bureau in Yuzhmash.
Since 1972, he began working as a journalist in the newspaper Gudok.
Since 1988 he worked in the weekly newspaper Moskovskie Novosti as a columnist, then as deputy editor-in-chief and as executive secretary.
He worked as a special correspondent and head of the publishing house “Kommersant” department, columnist for the “Stolichnaya Vechernaya Gazeta”, deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Novy Ochevidets.
At present he is the editor-in-chief of the magazine Sakvoyazh SV,
Alexander Kabakov – chairman of the jury of the Russian Booker-2006 award.
According to the works of Alexander Kabakov films “Ten years without the right of correspondence” (director V. Naumov, 1990) and “Defective” (directed by S. Snezhkin, 1991) were made.
Kabakov’s books have been published in many countries of the world, including the USA, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, all Scandinavian countries, Japan and China.
