Characteristic features of the Shakespeare Theater
- Use of borrowed plots, which in its processing received a new artistic embodiment, poetic breathing and philosophical content; the special role of the jester in the plays – the character most vividly illustrating the idea of world theatricality and endowed with the power to freely speak the truth, to disrupt the masks from hypocrites and liars, to ask “uncomfortable” questions, to reflect on philosophical themes; the assertion of Renaissance ideals in comedies and their critical rethinking in tragedies; devoid of geographic and temporal acquisitions entourage scenic action, which often appear exotic for the Englishman’s name, but the characters, whatever costumes they are, in their behavior and thinking remain contemporaries and fellow dramatists; repetition of the main theme of the tragedy in several parallel plots, that allows to emphasize the tragic exclusiveness of the hero; “presentation” character of the first replica of the hero, which sets the tone for his psychological attitude, behavior and even fate; checking the dignity of the characters with their attitude to love and power.
