Waking up at dawn, Kandarpaketu, to her horror, discovers that Vasavadatta has disappeared. After long fruitless searches Kandarpaketu comes to the shore of the ocean and desperately wants to rush into his waters. At the last moment, a divine voice keeps him from suicide, promising him an early meeting with his beloved. For several months Kandarpaketu wanders along the coastal forests, supporting life with fruits and roots, until one day, at the beginning of autumn, he encounters a stone statue, similar to his beloved one. In love anguish Kandarpaketu touches the statue with his hand, and it becomes alive to Vasavadatta.

To inquire about the Kandarpaketu, Vasavadatta says that on the morning of their separation she went to collect the fruit of trees for them to eat. Deepening into the forest, she unexpectedly met with the camp that was stationed, and behind it chased his leader. But immediately there was another army – the mountaineers-kirats, and his leader, too, the herd to pursue Vasavadattu. Both the commander, and, after them, their warriors, for the sake of possession of Vasavadatta, entered the battle and completely exterminated each other. However, even in the course of the battle, they ruthlessly devastated the hermitage nearby, and the holy head of this monastery, finding Vasavadatta guilty of what happened, cursed her, turning it into a stone statue. The term of the curse was to end – as it did in fact, – when the sculpture touches the future husband of the princess.

After a long-awaited and happy meeting Kandarpaketu and Vasavadatta are sent to the capital of the Kandarpaketu kingdom. There they are already waiting for Makaranda, and both the king-father, Chintamani and Shringarasekhara, solemnly celebrate the wedding of his son and daughter, now forever rid of all troubles and disasters.
