Summary “Sand teacher” Platonova

In 1927 A. Platonov’s story “The Sandy Teacher” was written. The prototype of the main character was the bride of the writer M. Kashintsev, who, like Maria Naryshkina from the work, was engaged in the elimination of illiteracy in a remote village near Voronezh.

In the story, Platonov refers to the theme of the struggle between an enthusiastic man and the natural element he repeatedly raised in the 1920s. We offer to read its brief content.

“Sand teacher”: acquaintance with the heroine

Maria Naryshkina was twenty years old, and she just graduated from the pedagogical courses. She was a healthy, strong girl, whose childhood and youth passed in the Astrakhan province. She knew the Caspian sands well, but her parents protected her daughter from the details and echoes of the recent events in the country: the revolution and the civil war. This is the beginning of the story (and its brief content) of Platonov’s “The Sandy Teacher”.

Maria

was fond of geography, experienced love, and now with shining eyes she listened vaguely and expected changes. She was sent to a school in the village of Khoshutovo, located on the border with a dead desert in Central Asia.

Long journey and acquaintance with a new place of residence

The second chapter opens with a description of a sandstorm. Heat, like dazzling bonfires, dunes, endless streams of moving sand – here is its brief content. Sand teacher – so we will call Mary – saw a similar picture for the first time, so she felt sad.

Only on the third day the girl reached the village. Several dozen houses, rare bushes near the wells, a stone school and all the same snowdrifts brought from the Pamirs. The inhabitants desperately tried to clean the courtyards, but it was “a hard and almost unnecessary work”. As a consequence, the poverty and desperation of the peasants who are tired of the struggle. This picture ends the second chapter and its brief content.

A sand teacher settled at the school, which made the weary guardian very happy.

First
difficulties

Maria Nikiforovna somehow prepared the premises for studies and two months later met the students. They walked five or twenty times. And with the onset of cold weather, there was no one to teach. Parents did not have the means to dress children. Bread almost did not remain, two students died of hunger. The girl’s hands fell, as the peasants were not needed in the conditions when it came to survival.

Maria Nikiforovna thought for a long time about what to do. Finally, I realized: you need to learn to fight the sands, and went to the district. She was sympathetic, gave books, and advised him to seek help from an agronomist who lived a hundred and fifty versts from Khoshutovo. So you can describe the meeting held and its summary.

“Sand teacher”: two years later

Maria Nikiforovna not without difficulty persuaded the residents to leave in the spring and autumn for public works. Soon, she had assistants in the face of two activists. A year later, the village was surrounded by green plantings. As a result, yields were much increased, as the land was protected from sand and stored more moisture. There was also additional fuel. And the residents have mastered additional earnings: they wove baskets and furniture from rods. Here are the results of the two-year activity of Maria Nikiforovna and her summary. Platonova the sandy teacher attracted her enthusiasm and faith in the future. In the near future, she planned to break a pine nursery near the school.

Life in the village began to improve – only in the first winter was received an additional two thousand rubles. Adults now, along with children, constantly visited the school, where they got acquainted with new ways of fighting the desert.

This is the summary (the sand teacher during this time grew stout and even more her face “zalevilas”) of the fourth chapter.

First real sadness

The trouble happened in August of the third year. Residents have long been waiting for nomads who passed through these places once every fifteen years. Usually this happened in the spring, when there was still some green. And by the end of summer everything had dried up, even the birds and animals went to look for better places.

The arrived flocks destroyed everything that was created with great difficulty for three years. The confused and embittered Maria Nikiforovna went to the leader of the nomads. The girl accused those who came to robbery, and she heard: “Our steppe… Those who are hungry and eat the grass of their homeland are not a criminal.” The conversation turned out to be unpleasant, which proves its concise content. The sand teacher (Platonov notes that Maria Nikiforovna nevertheless found the leader smart) immediately went to the district.

Life for the welfare of others

The manager surprised the girl, immediately stating that now in Khoshutovo completely will do without it. And then he explained that the peasants of the village can themselves fight sand, but they want to send it to Safuta, where the settled nomads live. Maria Nikiforova was indignant at first, but the manager immediately explained his plan. We give it a brief summary. The sand teacher will have to teach the nomads to fight with the elements. Then the fear will disappear that at some point they will break from the places brought by sand and again go to destroy the landing of Russian immigrants.

Maria Nikiforovna was thinking. And what about youth? A family? But then I remembered the clever leader, I thought about the desperation of the tribes, sandwiched, and answered contentedly: “I agree.” Zavokrono approached the girl: “You… could manage a whole people, not a school… I… somehow ashamed, but the desert is the future world…”.
