Summary “Fifteen-year-old captain” Verna

The schooner “Pilgrim” is moving towards San Francisco. There are a lot of people on board, among them Captain Gul, five experienced sailors, a fifteen-year-old junior sailor – the orphan Dick Send, the ship Negro, and the wife of the owner of the Pilgrim James Weldon – Mrs. Weldon, with her five-year-old son Jack, her queer relative called “Cousin Benedict”, and the old nurse Negro Nun.

On the way, they pick up five emaciated blacks: Tom, Bata, Austin, Actaeon and Hercules and the dog Dingo. Their boat collided with another ship, as a result of which their ship was malfunctioning. Sailors from the “Pilgrim” came out these people, and Dingo for some reason at the sight of the Negro showed a grin, as if he knows him.

After a while, Captain Gal and five more sailors are killed in the whaling. The authority of the captain of the Pilgrim is dared to take the fifteen-year-old young man Dick Send. But because of the inability to

use navigation, the ship does not dock to America, but to Africa, which the guy does not suspect.

Kok Negoro discreetly disappears when the ship is thrown ashore. As it turned out later, he conspired with his old acquaintance Garris. It consisted in the fact that Harris tells the arrived seamen that they are on the shores of Bolivia, although they were in Africa.

As it turned out, Negoro and Harris were familiar long ago, when Negoro was involved in the slave trade. Koka was sentenced to life imprisonment, but he managed to escape and settled on the brig “Pilgrim”.

Harris led the sailors deep into the rainforest, but deceived began to guess that they were far from in America, they realized that Africa was around them. Dick Sende regards the disappearance of Harris as a betrayal that disappeared from Negoro, in turn, wants to grab Dick Senda, Negroes, Nun, Mrs. Weldon with her son, and also cousin Benidict.

Dick Send with his people decides to swim across the river on a raft, but the river, unexpectedly, comes out of the coast and travelers are forced to hide in the termite. But when

they got out of there, the Negroes, Dick and Nun were taken prisoner by the leader of the caravan of slaves, who was Harry’s acquaintance, Mrs. Weldon and his son were taken to somewhere unknown. Later, Nun dies, unable to stand the transition camp, and Dick, hearing from Harris that Mrs. Weldon and his son are dead kills him, but Dick did not know that it was a lie. Negoro, in turn, wants to take revenge on Dick for a friend, so he asks permission to kill Dick Senda from Alvez, the owner of the caravan of slaves and a very influential person in Kazonda, and also from Muani-Lung, the local king. Later, Muani-Lunga burns to the ground, after the drunk punch, which Alvets prepared for him.

Dick is going to be executed. On the day of the funeral of Muani-Lung, it is tied to a pillar and suspended over a boiling foundation pit, in which, according to tradition, all wives, except the one who organized the funeral.

At this point Mrs. Weldon, with her son and cousin Benidict, is held hostage by Negoro, who wants to get a big ransom for them from Mr. Weldon. But this intention is not fated to come true.

Negoro travels to San Francisco and leaves the hostages under the care of Alvec. Cousin Benidict was very fond of insects, and when he enthusiastically ran for one of the flying specimens, he suddenly was at large. There he meets with Hercules, who was able to escape before his brothers were captured. Hercules thinks out how to help his friends and brothers. When the village was full of rains, the wife of the deceased Muani-Lunga – Queen Muan calls the sorcerer, who pretends to be Hercules. The guy, being supposedly a mute sorcerer, signs shows that the perpetrators of rains are prisoners. In general, he saved Dick Send from death, Mrs. Weldon, her son, cousin Benidict and dog Dingo, but his brothers could not save him, since they managed to sell into slavery. Then all the surviving prisoners go on a boat disguised as a floating island, go down the river, but it turned out that they are swimming the island of cannibals. Travelers stop on the opposite shore, not to get into the waterfall. There they discover human bones, a note and an inscription blood on the tree “S. V.”. Unexpectedly, Dingo breaks off, and a human cry was heard nearby. The dog clung to the throat of Negoro, who once killed the owner of Dingo Samuel Vernon, and now came to collect the money hidden in a hiding place, after which he wanted to go to America.
